Default MK2 Cortina Chassis number decode

Hi All I have a MK2 2 door that the ID plate is missing. I have the body number CM23651B (pretty sure this is correct). Can anyone assist with identification. Thanks Matt

I'd suggest that that is an engine number, but the C would have to be a G for 1967, with the M being the month, which I don't know off the top of my head.

But, all those codes are applicable to the USA! Every country seems to use their own set of numbers and letters from what I've seen and know.

It is stamped into the right hand strut tower. The letter and number sequence matches my series 2 GT, but it starts with CN. I have attached a pic of the number on my original post. Thanks for the replies.

Thanks chappy60, You learn something new every day. I looked on the radiator support panel first, but didn't see it. I will have a better look and see if I can find it. Thanks Matt

standing at the front of the car it will be to
the right of the bonnet catch on rare occasions
you might have to unscrew the grill on top and
pull it back a bit to see it

So it turns out the radiator support panel has previously been replaced. The replacement panel didn't get the body number stamped into it. Any suggestions on what I can do for a body number when it comes time to register it (in QLD)?

Perhaps just check with the registration authority, Queensland Transport, as they are the responsible authority in your State!

I don't have any previous rego details unfortunately. I purchased it as a rolling body along with a heap of GT parts from south of Sydney about 7 years ago. I was thinking maybe a late 68 or 69, as it's a series 2 but had the smaller id plate on the inner wing. I will go into the local Ford dealer here in Toowoomba with the engine number and see if they can find any details.
Thanks for the replies, Matt
