Hey Dave,
You were wavering there for a lil while in regards the Kat with the 'niggles' experienced but I see you're starting to come around again if investing on this latest HP gaining measure... ;-) All the best with the outcome! |

Hi Dave, would it be rude to ask the total cost and did you import privately or through Rock-Auto.

Trev, cost is U$730.00 + U$120.00 for shipping. Don't have a cost for installation yet but I will get my mechanic to do it and then take it from there.
Maybe $3-400 for the install as they will bolt straight on. Might have to modify the exhaust with a resonator as it is loud enough now but will see when it is finshed. Shipment is direct to my offcice via UPS.

Receieved confirmation of payment and shipment today. Should have my consignment in a week or so. Will post pics when I get it.
It's amazing really when you think about 30h.p. at the wheels means it must be about 50 h.p. at the fly wheel. Can't wait to get it all installed.

Good stuff Dave.
Be interesting to hear if once the install is in place the HP gains meet your expectation levels or go even beyond that! |

Finally had my headers installed yesterday and man-o-man what a difference .
It is exactly like the DYNO figures shown here... http://www.msdsinc.com/ho810.html When you get to about 3500rpm the power comes on fast and hard. By 4000rpm you can feel it really pulling HARD with heaps of GRUNT left as the secondary injectors cut in and the fuel starts to really pump. At this rpm you can feel it pushing you back in the seat. The downside is that it is louder now than what it was and it was LOUD before. I think it is still legal but even at low rpm it is loud so I will have to get some sort of resonator on it to pull it back a bit as the daily grind to and from the airport will be intolerable (although I could always turn up the radio a few notches). It is a totally different car now and of course will have to get used to the whole thing again cos as soon as you use the kick down the thing is straight into the power band and then it lunges forward with a raspy growl. Not sure if there will be any economy gains when everything settles down, including me, but it will be interesting to see what happens. Took my mechanic most of the day with an install cost of $550.00 as it is a difficult a job to get into and under the engine but well worth it. Will post pics when I can get it up on a hoist.

O yea.. try and do anything around V6 engines on front wheel drive is P in the A job. Did your mechanic had to take the subframe off or did the hard way?

Yes dropped the sub frame and moved the alternator but he was still cursing me when he handed me his bill.

Dave, did you have to sacrifice precats with these headers?

Yes the precats are gone now. My advice is that the precats are for "cold starts" and that once the main catalytic converter heats up this eliminates the emissions anyway.
