Default Membership Drive Ideas

As people may have read in one of Tim's posts, I have been investigating having a display in Launceston's Brisbane Street Mall (for non-locals the mall smack in the middle of the city).

So far I have been in contact with the city council, who are happy with us having a display in the mall one Saturday, and for the space they'll only charge about $20. We can fit two cars at least in the space provided, three might fit (I have to get the tape measure out soon!), provided their emergency vehicles can get access if need be they're happy.

The local rag (The Examiner) is happy to run a story the week or day before, I'll just need to meet with them beforehand to give them the ow-down on the club, what we do, who we are etc. This can help with people who might not come in to the city that day, but may be interested in signing up.

I was also thinking of having the new signboards we are making for the Silverdome show around the cars, some basic flyers to hand out to the mildly interested and some more detailed flyers and membership forms for the seriously interested - they flyers should be pretty cheap, a nice black and white job printed off lots of times would be fine. A computer showing our website and photos of recent events (maybe the videos shown at the AGM) could also be good.

As for member commitment it would be very little. I am happy to spend my day 'manning the stall', it would be good for at least one more person to also lend their car/themselves for the day. We can't practically move a car from 9am to 4pm (barring emergency) so the commitment would be the whole day.

What do people think? I think it could really help memberships, especially for the 'older' Tickfords if we slant the target that way, as well as helping awareness of not being a totally-rev-head-driven-dangerous-driving club.
