Give the engine number to S.A REG and they will tell you if it is ok then if you buy the car they can change the eng number on the forms. I think the cops can check it for you too.

Just make sure all receipts have all correct details of the buyer and seller, as well as indentification numbers etc.
When I did an engine swap I had to get the car inspected (similar to a blue slip) then take that to the relevant motoring authority for the transfer. I owned both the old and new car / engine so I just showed both sets of rego papers. Would be the same in SA I'm assuming. |

I'm here in vic, and i did an engine swap in my hilux, all you have to do here is go to vicroads and they look at the engne number and record it, then gave me a new rego sticker. As long as its the same engine or an option for that car its all sweet. well here anyways

If the engine number doesn't match the rego dept records, the car will have to go to Regency for an inspection. I think it's only for the motor though, but don't quote me on that.

Is it a local SA car and do you know if he knows the previous rego number. I can't remember how long it is, but if it's only been out of rego for a short time, you might be able to go in and just get rego on it. If you need an roadworthy inspection, make sure it is all good, otherwise you might come home with a big list of things to be done before you can get rego. Even if you need to go to Regency for a engine number inspection, they can defect you and send you for a full roadworthy if she looks a bit dodgy.

The engine number must match the rego number details, otherwise it's off to regency.
