New Toy - VW Jetta Turbo DSG

Hi all. I was looking around to buy VW GTI for ages. At last I bought the car that I wanted yesterday. It's not a GTI but very similar. It's VW Jetta FSI Turbo DSG. Absolutely loving it. It's wonderful car inside out. I traded my XR6 for it. I can't wait to get her modified and tuned. I must say it, DSG 6 speed transmission is amazing to drive after crappy BTR 4 speed. Here are some pics of my new pride and joy.

These are awesome car's, my Aunty has one, very impressive how fast they are & how little fuel they use.

Tyres are exxy for them tho!

Had a few turbo diesel jettas in here, same age etc. They are very nice to drive but i'm not a fan of the driving position - a bit too tall for it.

it has 225/40/17 michelin on it. I don't know how much they're but I am guessing over 250 each.

The diesel is garbage, I hate it, sounds more like a truck than some of the trucks I drive LOL

Ive not driven the petrol model but I'm sure I'd like it much better..

Are you serious mate? Golf TDI and Jetta TDI are one of the best diesel cars ever made. It has a diesel engine and its normal that its bit noisier than petrol one.

Yes they are nice to drive. Only problem is the servicing costs. My wifes VW costs about 3 times as much to service than the commodore it replaced. You also have to go to the dealer for parts or special order them from places like supercheap, bursons which gets annoying. Also have a timing belt to worry about.

You're getting taken to the cleaners on servicing costs, learn to service your own car, there isn't much to it despite what BS the dealer will spin you, and check out ebay.co.uk for good priced parts as it makes these things more affordable to own.

Compare one of these to the latest Corolla to see how far behind the Jappas really are.

If they are 225, see if 235 fits on them.
That will reduce the cost significantly.

Yes I'm serious I have friends with them and have driven my uncles golf tdi heaps, I hate the diesel, not for me thanks, i don't care if it uses 1L/100km I just don't like them in cars, maybe a nice Mercedes or BMW diesel would change my mind, but not the VW.

I do service my own car. Wouldn't let a dealer touch my car!! But take ATF fluid for example. It's $20 litre. Compare that to DexronIII @ about $5 litre. A air cleaner about $55 compared to $15 for Commodore/Falcon. It goes on and on. Ebay is ok but sometimes you need things straight away.

We traded our BA V8 on a VW. Drove it straight off the showroom floor. Feature for feature, our VW turns out to be a much better family car than the XR8 was. I do still miss the sound of the boss V8 though.

VW are great, my little sister has a golf, i did the waterpump, timing belt, plugs, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, got geniune coolant as well and flushed the system, the whole lot cost me just under $350. thats all genuine VW parts, i couldn't beleive it. a falcon costs more then that genuine, platinum plugs too.

top little car man, very efficient, and efficient use of space too i've noticed!

Love the Jetta's, great little car with lots of features and the look great.

The Fsi is a nice unit for tuning aswell.

I had a loan Jetta TDI when I had my R32 in for a service back in the day. Maybe it's a testament to how punchy the R32 feels but the Jetta felt very slow.

Never driven the petrol but a few mates have them and love them. What I was astonished by was the tardis boot. It's cavernous.

Filter cartridge 18 bucks
wiper baldes 20 bucks
pads 110-140
rotors front 130
rotors rear 109

A vw dealer service is cheaper than a mazda or ford dealer. parts dearer, yes, but not astronomically so.

Oils dearer as they're all syntehtics to reach a 15K interval.

Dear bits:
Starter motor 300
DSG service 750 (the oil is something like 50 bucks a litre)
timing belt 1K (including service.)

Its not that bad.

maybe good on paper but they are a pretty ugly looking car.i wouldnt like to look at that thing with a hangover.

Depends on the motor. 2.0 FSI and TDI will have the 6 speed dsg with wet clutch.

1.4 TSI 77 TDI will have the 7 speeder as that is rated to 250Nm.

I don't agree with you there mate. I've done a bit of research about the parts and I can tell you right now that most of the parts are cheaper than my xr6 parts, especially from USA and Germany. I don't worry about the service costs as I do my own service.

Parts are dirt cheap on ebay from germany, uk and usa. Also I noticed that jetta's boot space is bigger than commodore's and falcon's boot. funny thing

I had an '05 Golf 5 FSI. 2L, normally aspirated. It had nearly an identical interior to yours (the Jetta uses the Golf front end). I still think it was the best car I have ever owned. It got written off in the hail storms in Melbourne last year.

I did all the work on it myself. Parts from the Melbourne dealers was about 25 to 40% dearer than the country dealer where I live now. I had problems getting used to the indicator & wiper stalks on the wrong side - that was me not the car. I also found the climate control had a mind of its own. It was fun to drive, and super cheap to run...great cars.

The only reason I dont have another VW now is that I want the 7 speed DSG but they are having issues with the box so I thought I would let them iron the bugs out of it which I'm sure they probably have by now.

yeah mate I had the same same issue. When I took it for a test drive, as I was going out the dealer I put the left indicator on and suddenly wipers went off. Than sales rep told me indicator is on the left side.

Looking at the pic of your interior brings back memories...sometimes I used to slap my foot down on the kick panel instead of the go pedal too - man it hangs out a lot! The material on the doors is easy to pull threads on too - my missus was doing it all the time with the rocks on her fingers...
