Default 50th Anniversary Falcon

Quote:
The legendary Falcon will soar again during 2010 with the release today of a commemorative logo to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ford Falcon cars in Australia.

Inspired by the original Falcon bird logo from the early 1960s, the new logo will feature prominently across a range of product and celebratory activities during 2010.

"2010 is a very special year for Ford in Australia," said Ford Australia Marketing, Sales & Service Vice President Beth Donovan.

"In addition to celebrating the 50th birthday of Falcon, we are also marking our 85th year as a company in Australia."

While Ford vehicles have been sold in Australia since 1904, the company was officially established on 31st March, 1925. Production of the first Model T Ford began at the company's Geelong plant three months later.

Falcon, the longest-running nameplate in Australian motoring history, will enter its 51st year on Monday 28th June – 50 years to the day after the first Australian-built XK Falcon rolled off the production line at Ford's manufacturing plant in Broadmeadows.

"There is no doubt that Falcon has been a true icon of the Australian motoring scene since 1960," said Donovan.

"Falcon has a history of being first to market with a wide variety of technology and safety advancements. We will continue that tradition in the next 12-18 months with the introduction of an all-new liquid phase injection LPG system and the world's first rear-wheel-drive EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine."

Ford Australia Design Manager Todd Willing looked to the past to design the commemorative new logo.

"We wanted to recognise the heritage in the original Falcon motifs of the early sixties, but it was also imperative that we created a new design that reflects the contemporary and dynamic vehicle that Falcon represents today and will tomorrow."

What would you like them to do? Engineer a new engine perhaps
It's an anniversary edition, slight cosmetic upgrades were alaways the way since the 70s

If holden can badge it's commodore as the 60th edition and ensinuate that the commodore has been around for 60 years, why shouldn't ford do the same?

80th year falcon!

The ltd edition holdens were badged as 60th anniversary editions. Implying 60 years of Holden not the actual model of car

Well I'd like it to be a bit special. I don't just want stickers on the car with some different wheels, I want it to scream of value, be based on an up-market model (not XT) and be marketed till the cows come home. No one here said they hate the concept or that they wanted a brand new model, we just don't want it to be stickers and some nice wheels. It has to appeal and show Australia that the Falcon is Australia, a part of our history and hopefully our future...

Fair call Mick!

We'll see soon enough.

If it's true though, I hope they do something a little extra, along the lines of the G6LE, which has done very well.

Who knows if we'll get to a 60th anniversary Falcon?

See bolded. To the general public, IMO, the message came across as the commodore being 60 years old, as a result of the advertising.

Totally agree George, people want the world and more. Also as the auto market is still a little fragile i doubt there will be alot of effort put into this one.

ahhhhhhhhhhhh

So XR50 had nothing to do with coyote. But why no 50th XR8?...hmmmm would have looked cracking in the gold and matched well with the original XR GT.

The range looks great.

edit: Anyone else notice that CA is very pro Ford, I dont know if its years of having the media bagging Ford but they seem to have lots of Ford adds aswell. Just an observation.

Yes and those cars look the goods still. Atleast Ford can pcik new rims, even if they are just reworked older ones; suits it well.

Would the stickers still be grey if you option ego (is that still around??)

Because the V8's won't be available at time of release of the 50th models.

I'm sure it was part of the plan until the issues were identified.

It mentions a new mocha metallic brown available only on G series. I think it would look fantastic.

Good job all round I reckon. Something for everyone's price range. Plenty of unique touches, and pretty tastefully done too.

Now all they gotta do is trumpet the fact that the big bird is 50 years old so people actually notice...

Looks good, much more than a sticker pack. Hopefully this pleases those who doubted ford would take this anniversary seriously.

Not trying to be negative, but does anyone else think 6 different models is going to be too many to properly commutate them to the non-ford customer??

It will be very interesting to see the pricing of the Turbo ones

I hope the adds for these sends out a clear message about Australian Made & very pro Australian.. And even something about ongoing investment in Australian made..
