Default 4 Door Mk2 Escort - Racing examples?

Yeap still haven't quite worked out which way I am going to go with my circuit toy. Ive ruled out going the RS route purely based on parts etc if (or maybe when) I have a bingle; I couldn't bare destroying the front ends etc.

Anyway, does anyone have an experience or knowledge on racing 4 doors. Reason I ask is because I gather they are basically same spec, maybe a little bit heavier, but they are ALOT cheaper to buy/repair than a 2 door.

I know a Ford UK magazine has a 4 door circuit car that seems to do quite well, but was wondering if anyone locally has gone down that path.

It wouldn't be a car I would keep forever, but figured its a good entry point to circuit/club/targa style racing.

If you have any pics or links it would be greatly appreciated.

I have a vision of a mk2 four door, caged, maybe arched, painted signal orange, black rs rear and front spoilers with a tasty 2L; oh and cant forget the minilites!

I have other questions about what engines I can run (YB for example) and how the car would be categorized but perhaps later or in another thread.

Building a 4 door now. Had a bit of rust to cut out and fiberglass which sucked. I put the car on my corner scales and it weighed 965kgs. Pulled out the interior and fitted a set of racing seats, 4 point harnesses, driver / passenger intercom and it already has rally suspension and rally tyres fitted. Got the weight down to 887kgs so far. Have to build a hydraulic handbrake and get the roll cage fitted but it's on the way to being a pretty cheap race car. The beauty as you say of the four doors is of course the price but bear in mind a good quality FIA/CAMS approved roll cage is going to set you back a good $3.5k, allow $2k for suspension, $1.5K for proper semi-slicks, $500-$2k for seats, $1k for harnesses plus whatever engine work you may want.
So you're already up to around $10k on top of the car itself so it isn't particularly cheap per say, but as far as racing goes, it's bloody cheap!

Cheers Booyar, do you have any pics of your build?

Everything you mentioned I have budgeted for, although I was thinking roughly $1.5k for the cage, ill have to do some more research.

887kgs is impressive.
