What are guard extensions. Are they the bits that come off around the front head lights on the front fenders?

Default XC tramp rods

I'm chasing an XC tramp rod (XC 9" diff on XB)
I have XB tramp rods, but apparently don't fit on XC diff due to disc brake at rear.
