Geez Doc,
Those rear quarters are looking darn good and the roof looks perfect. Gotta be happy with that! How did you go with the lower guard sections, Did you have to do much work on them to make them fit? They look spot on going by the pics. Cheers Jack

doh. just woke up. thanks everyone, gotta get back into it fast now. hey jack, the lowers required skill , cunning and dexterity, but me trapped here with none of them used vise grips , grinder and a hammer. I bolted it to the car to get it to sit proper did a few measurements and went cut. In all they fit but i reckon the curve could be better on the repo panel. thats where the vise grips came in. The inners werent too bad, lots of dirt etc hiding behind them, give it a good wash out and they will survive. Got a nice pic of the roof here i will find, After we ran the 7" over it so i all clean metal. Danni happy as we gettin stuff done again. Hey Gossy, u can come down and watch real close and I will move to QLD if thats ok ? ........ At least we finally havin sunshine down here now. AND I reckon if loundsey dont crash he will win :( . He a good driver , its just unfortunate he is a ******.

Ha ha! I didn't think anyone would be on the forums today, as Bathurst is on, but here I am (I'm not a real motor racing fan unless it's me doing it!) as well, LOL.
Doc and Danni, I just found this thread, it's got me appreciating how much work you two are doing, as progress is really fast! Subscribing to this thread so I don't miss anything. Love your sense of humour too, Doc. Shazz

I was on a chair bound for photobucket when boredom overtook me and I began to sleep. .
Soo. The kids came out to help , they must have had an off day or something,, anyway I digress, what better way to wake em up then to give em wire wheels to play with. We went thru 7 wire wheels and some stripper but a the end of the day, no paint left on the body at all. My first job was to knock the other rain channel off n make it look pretty. I did this instead. but laterer it ended up good as. Both rain channels off now and look like this. This apparently is placed behind bog and used for replacing the rear window sill If i knew it was gunna do this I would have left it in. . All in all its not bad for an original I guess, we have all seen worse. All you aspiring panel beaters, please note you need this... to fix this.. LHR dog leg. or, you could do this with some time and effort. It dont look like much for a day I guess now I look at it , but it was.....HONEST !. We also hit the body with a etch to seal her off for the week so rust monster stayed away. Next on my target list is lhf guard and the rust around rear window . Still to come are doors, boot and bonnet. AND a heartfelt apology for loundsey winnin bathurst, i know it was my fault . Last edited by JG65TE; 11-10-2010 at 10:19 AM. |

As for my job, its a cruisy job but I wasnt happy there and they pushed my buttons. Eleanor : Yeah, seen some pretty bad ones myself. I think I will just fix the one there. too much hassle cuttin n shuttin a new one in, from what i have heard the repo ones can be up to a coupla inches short........... |

Winter white. BA colour right?
We painted my brothers XW ute that color many years ago (2002) in 2 pack. looks tops in the sun or under cover, and has a slight blue tinge to it some times. I tryed to talk him into letting me put a silver pearl over the top to pick up the sharp panel lines on the dub, but he got the car striped (xw gt clone) before i got to it!

$5045.00 Running Total $ 170.00 Rear End Rubbers $ 100.00 4 ltrs Hi Fill $ 40.00 1mm steel sheet $ 70.00 2x4ltr stripper $ 35.00 500ml Winter white $ 50.00 Wire wheels x10 (love the markets) $5515 so far Unfortunately not much will be done as now I dumped my job I have some time off so I am headin to Katherine to visit my brother n shoot some stuff... . We looked at sno white first coz it as a old school ford colour but it has more green then white in it i reckon so danni went walkin round car yards til she found the one she wanted. Also interested if anyone has a set of rear over riders, I got a pair but the a bit rough, fixable but would rather ones without a crack in em. Catch yas all in a week . |

Hey Doc making some progress there.
Quick question, are you fixing the rust on the inner panels as well? i.e. slam pillar & inner sill panel etc. It would be a shame to only plate the outer panels & not to do the inner ones, as that's where the rust starts from! Keep up the good work. Cheers Todd. |

Played around a bit over the weekend, Stripped the doors back with much trepidation <<----- pretty sure thats a word..
You wouldnt believe it but they are some of the best doors I have seen. This rust in the passenger door and a touch where the skin folds over on the bottom inside . Cut it out and let the boy have a crack at making a plate and welding it in. The plate came up ok, Think a bit more welding practice and he will get the hang of it.. fixed. Well sort of, I went over it again and cleaned up the holes for him but not bad for the 2nd time he has held a mig I guess. Finally fitted the lhs guard up so we could replace the bottom. Inners on both guards were ok. Couple of minor rust holes but nothing worth replacing the inner for..... Cleaning edges for weldy time . Rear of lhs sill panel. Nearly finished patching it up, will show pics when i do.. Drivers rear of sill..... Halfway thru cuttin rust out.... Little bit more of a tidy and this side will be finished... As far as rust goes , only lhs rear wheel arch and some in the rear window lower area and a tiny bit under the right tail light . Not sure if I told yas when we pulled the diff etc to re bush the rear end, we discovered one of the springs were broked (right under the sandwich plates tht hold the diff..... weird). I found another set of springs in the shed (YAY) and fired the oxy up to melt the old bushes out, I burnerised my pointy finger doin that..... But like they say if you dont draw blood working on cars your doing it wrong..... Stay tuned for the next exciting chapter when captain kremmen helps his assistant crla down the stairs with her pair of 38s.... oh sorry, I mean when i burn hack or destroy something else.......... If anyone knows of where to get a set of inner a pillar trims , let me know Please ? . i have 4 door ones that I will cut down if it comes to it, but really want proper ones. Cheers Doc |

Sooo, back to the latest episode, u will remember the last one where timmy fell down a hole and lassie went to the pub.... lassie is now in rehab and timmy is well.......
We had a couple of grills layin around, Danni decided she wanted fairmont front, fair call since its a fairmont i guess...... The grill that came on the car was white, I got a fairmont n the back yard and that one had a few breaks in it, so had started to fix one up for her, but we came across this one on the bay of E. Scored it for $40.00 And called a favour in for pickup (thanks mate). It is pretty well immaculate, this is all we need to know its a good grill. Both mount points perfect. Got the light surrounds for $31.00, Again no broken mounting points. I already had a set of brand new fairmont light kicking around so the grill just needs putting together now. YAY As ya all know I went to the swap meet saturday so nothing got done then, But sunday I decided I had to make some kind of forward movement seen as how the echuca run is set. I have some good mates ... one threw me a rhf guard to be used as a donor for the rear wheel arch. You remember this ? A bit of quick marking out and the guard went under the knife and gave its life willingly bar a slight struggle as the realisation set in. Worked out that while most of the arch does indeed take the form of the guard that down lower where the scoop bolts it changes angle a touch, so 2 pieces were gunna be needed for this operation. First step hack out what looked like a good spot for the join. Did a test fit and a few more trim to fits. Gettin happy by this time, wasn't that big of a job after all. Grab the mig and point it at the naughty bit and ta daa. It magically welds itself in !! .. The rust went all the way to the start of the sill panel, the only pics I have seen are of the guard being used across the lip area , But it looked like it would go in with a slight change of the crease on the guard area and a tiny sliver to fill the mismatchwe got from turning the panel to suit. Area cleaned , ready for weld in. Both pieces in as well as the sliver, just needs grinding and finishing now. It was still daylight so I had a look at the lhs rear because I didnt have to move anywhere. . Out comes the blade again..That bit you see there is fibreglass put in from the boot side. Took some smacking to get that out. Boot side after removal of the glass. I have already welded in a panel there but didnt take a pic, will get that next time for yas. Even had time to hifill a door thru the day and hopefully the other next weekend and get the infills painted so we can bolt them on All in all some good progress made for a days work. I have to go now as my mate was just admitted to hospital with 5 toy horses stuck in his bum, but dont worry the doctors say his condition is stable....... |

Mate, you really should have a TV programme to show people this sort of thing. Your banter is amusing and you have 'the goods' with regard to skills, that's for sure! Love your work!

hey ya Jack, planning on blowin some colour (is white a colour ?) around christmas time if we can find a booth to use. Thanks sprint, buggerlugs and king neptune. It's keepin me amused thru the build. I kinda know xc's every which way but put together. I have owned 6 or 7 of them them the years and stripped every one of them. Rust is pretty well confined between the front bumper and the back bumper. lol. Mad Maxine. My dad always said I should be on stage... first one out of town. I would love a tv show but unfortunately I have a face for radio.
