yes i think so. i mean it's cheaper to employ 20 assembly line workers than 20 master craftsmen, like most other makers did at that time.

Google is your ...mate. iview is the ABC streaming service, it streams programs theyve aired to your PC, I dont think they are downloadable, just streamed. But I think they only stay available for a week or so, so dont wait too long.

I thought it was interesting about Holden, & that the first Holden wasn't really Australian.
They said that GM Australia designed a car, but GM America flexed it's muscles & made them base it on a Chev, other parts of it were of American design/origin. Also General Motors was part of Holden right from the start, so how did Holden become known as the Australian car company? Even today the Commodore is designed in the US & has many US parts.
As far as I can find from history, even though Ford Aus. is owned by a US parent, it's always been pretty much stand alone, designing & building the first ute, the Falcon always has been & still is Australian designed, & mostly Aus. parts built.
By my thinking Ford should be the Australian car company & the falcon should be the home grown hero.

Just ordered the three part series on DVD from the ABC shop online. Its available as of the 17th of November, $32.95 including postage.

Early Falcons were based on US cars. XA was Aus, I guess XW on was too but based on the XR has US roots. XD looks remarkably similar to the Brit ??Grenada??.

IMO the Fords are more Australian, but thats never cut the mustard and for the foreseeable future isnt likely to change.

It is available instores on the 11th November for $29.95. Just in case you are passing one and want it earlier

I like how the gentlemen commented " oh they only beat us by a month or two" but the ford ute was made in 1932, holden did not come around until late 1940's WTF.

Yes, a little Holden leaning, to be expected I guess. Steve "Bedders" Bedwell was/is a Holden sympathiser.
Next week should be really good. Bring on the muscle! Who's betting it'll be all about the Monaro, with the GT's getting a brief mention? Seeing the XR GT started things, and the XY GTHO being supreme, we'll see.

They failed to mention that the contract to build Australia's own car was put out to tender, and that Ford stumped up the most cash to get the program and had the most advanced and complete production facilities, but because Hartnet was on the selection committee, and had friends in government somehow Holden was awarded the contract.

Even then Holden had to fight dirty to win. Nothings changed.

i`ve always thought that too, but if you keep repeating a slogan long enough, football meat pie`s ,etc,etc, people will end up believing it, and gm holden has milked the crap out of it, but that`s business good luck to them.

Loved it, even though they made it look like the Monaro was the first muscle car in Aus, and the poor old Charger didnt even get a mention.

Yeah, all this bothered me a bit too.

They were referring to the Chevrolet ute which was built here in the 1930s

Being an immigrant and knowing the euro GM & Ford models of that era, the Aussie cars are based on the Euro/USA models so realy World developed models with different panels and other suspension mods for the different conditions.
Nothing wrong with this as much more people could afford to buy a car due to the spreading of the development costs.

Bedders bought my mint ZF 351 Fairlane off me 6 months ago

But agree he is more of a Holden man
