Using emotive language like 'taxpayer funded' is another key argument tool.

Everyone pays tax. How the govt spend it makes absolutely zero difference to me or you having to pay it.

All it does is help motivate the pitchfork wielding folk.

Its not emotive, its the truth,

Makes a huge difference on the balance sheet of the country, and at the polls come election time, maybe not in South Australia which receives more in the form of taxpayer subsidy than it contributes, look at the GST share of SA vs VIC/NSW/WA in what it contributes vs what it receives.

WA has a case here but they've also been subsidised by the rest of the country for the last ~120 years until they started contributing in the last 30 or so years.

Explain to me how it affects you and the tax you pay.

How do you feel about the Fed Govt using tax-payers money to bankroll a NRL team in Port Moresby to the tune of $600M, using the excuse it is to stop China getting a foothold in the Pacific.
Every time our current PM goes on a jaunt overseas, he takes a South Sydney NRL jumper and $100M cheque to give away.
The more they give away, the more we have to pay.
"Tax cuts for everybody" ........... what a bad joke. I am on a fixed income, and paying more than I was 5 years ago, while my expenses, i.e. insurance, rego, utilities, food, have all increased.

The point is, tax is a govt income stream. How they spend it makes no difference to me or you.

Using the term 'tax payer funded' is done to make people think the govt is taking extra money from them. Like I said, it's emotive language.

Although a side note, not necessarily true, vic is a good example of that,

Vic gov.. spend till they are broke, how do they get money?, introduced over 50 NEW taxes, and increased others… while telling victorians they can have it all, we are going with lower education, medical services, roads etc

If governments spend our tax dollars on things that benefit the community, people are good with that, when they waste it on inflated projects or things that have little or no benefit to the community … “insert politician superannuation plan and life time office and staff perks here” then tax payers have every right to be annoyed

Having said that, just saw an article where byd plan to release a full range of tractors to meet small medium and large as in Silverado, f150 and Ram sizes for the Aussie market at up to 30 grand cheaper.. does anyone think such a thing will actually gain traction in sales against ranger and hilux?

Agree, a good example is the "newly" introduce Land Tax applied this year.

A tax that was originally for well off investors has turned average Joe owner into a cash cow for the Vic Gov.
This tax was set to cover property over 300K, this year it came all the way down to over 50K.

Conveniently property valued at under 100K was subject to a sudden valuation hike (by guess who, the Vic Gov Valuer general) to now value it over the 100K bringing in a whole new land tax payer to their coffers.

So Governments know how the rub people up the wrong way.

We should be taxing these imports not incentivising them.

If you believe what you have written there, you are just being silly.
I am happy I am not in Victoria.
Who pays for the cost of planning and issuing of contracts for major stuff that is
then cancelled and not done, and then the payment of legal fees and compensation to engineering firms, C'wealth games, etc.
Ooops, forgot ....... it is the Govt's money. They just pull it out of thin air whenever they want some.

How good was it, circa 2005/2006 start providing tax incentives on Thailand's manufacturing industry at the cost of Australians.

Great idea,

Thats my favorite, promise to have a 'regional' Commonwealth Games thats going to cost eleventy zillion dollars to build all new facilities, then cancel it to pay $600M to not host the games. If I did that at work I'd be executed with a rusty toothpick at the crack of dawn

They chose Morwell to host the Rugby series, despite Morwell having neither a rugby union or league club, or any active players and inadequate facilities to host a rugby series there - what benefit was that going to provide?

Wouldn't you host it at Melbourne's already existing AAMI Park?

It was done on purpose to buy votes in regional areas, I guess throwing $600M down the drain to buy a couple votes is cheap when you're not the one who pays for that

In the mean time all my local roads are ****ing cooked and my local primary school is begging parents for donations so they can have the heating and cooling fixed in the classrooms, some of that $600M could have chucked a couple split systems in those classrooms for them as an interim measure.

The only thing thats happened at that joint since they built it in the mid 1990s when I went through there was they took all the good stuff out of the playgrounds, no more chain bridge, no more flying fox, poor bastards don't even know what its like to have fun anymore and now they don't even have heating in our winter when its -4 degrees to a top of 7.

I don't intend on having kids, one Franco is enough for this planet, but I don't like seeing this stuff go on.

Good to see there's a couple people here on AFF who can see whats going on, look over there AFL grand final!

If we spent taxpayer money a bit more reasonably, we probably wouldn't need to raise so much of it from all us plebs.

That includes incentivising Thailand's manufacturing industry, paid for by Australians.

The free trade agreement with Thailand killed the Australian car industry and also possible Ford Focus Production in Australia.

The corrupt idiotic Andrews Government have effectively bankrupted Victoria, and some idiots want to build a Bronze Statue of that Clown / ConMan.

Get a girl friend / partner, enjoy life together and have a child, it’ll change you completely. It will.

It was a bizarre decision, almost immediately afterward Thailand whacked on a tariff on any motor over 2.7L

They know how to play mercantilism.

Vic is headed for 1990s repeat, Feds/other states will be forced to bail it out. When we moved here we were flabbergasted at the deluge of community and arts grants, the big funded tourism stuff, never had seen anything like it, we enjoyed watching fire twirlers and festivals locally, there were fireworks every year, more than once I tried to figure out how WA iron ore was paying for it...

Funniest bit is Glasgow is hosting games for about 220Mn, and Vic money will perhaps be paying for it. You wouldn't read about it.

Truck vs Thailand Special shootout

Tow test is interesting, Isuzu N series makes about 80nm less torque but it got up the hill easier than the Hilux with its extra power and torque.

I'm dubious about the Thailand Specials and their 3500kg towing claims, thats on the ragged edge of what they can do, 1st gear down the hill and its still running away massively with it at GVM.

I think Grey Nomads should be considering these things, at least the ones with a bigger van pushing that 3500kg mark.

And you get to sit on comfy big tyre while you're at it.

On one occasion limping into Gundagai with a clogging fuel filter, I pulled into the mechanic's shop at the top of the hill.
He started to grumble about having to crawl through the cab to get to the engine bay, when to his gleaming surprise I popped the cab over.

"Why don't they make all MH's like this" he exclaimed.

The little trucks suck to drive though and that right there ends it for most people. I run an isuzu nlr with my buisness and no way in hell i would want to drive it on a trip its way to rough. I jump in my busted old 97 rodeo dual cab to head home and it feels like a fairlane in comparison.

I drive the 89' Traders almost on a daily basis, whether for work or just going places.
Helps to have reset front springs, a Stratos suspension seat, a nice load usually smooths out the trip.
The 86' will be set up in a similar fashion but we get why most won't buy them.

The 91' Mazda motorhome drives like new and is on a suspension cab.

The other thing is these little cab overs is what happens in a head on crash.
The hilux would offer more front on crash protection.

Pulling into a busy roundabout is fun. Zero payload and a beige Camry with a dented bumper is pulling away from you.

Maybe it’s just me but I get a sore back driving these small trucks a lot quicker than I do driving anything else.

It’s still a novelty for me to drive one so I do enjoy it. However I wouldn’t want to drive one all day every day.

Yeah if you're big they're designed for little Japanese, the seats are bolted rigid to the cab and fitted to close to the door so you can never get comfortable, you sort of have to wind the window down and hang your arm out of it
