gtechs. has anyone used them?

Has anyone used gtechs and what do you think of them? for consistency?
And reliability? And accuracy?

Has anyone compared them to drag strip timers at the same time?

i played with them about 10 yrs ago and they where reasonably good they where accurate in the fact that you could do runs on the street and change your tune and do anouther run and most of the time if you made a improvment on your time on the street you also would at the strip.. but the times i got on the street with the g tech and the times i got on the stripwhere never even close..
and i once tried it on the strip and the g tech was off

do you know what makes them work? i.e. how does it know it's done a 1/4 mile?

a young mate just brought one for his speedster; I'm finding it hard to see how it can be accurate.

They have an accelerometer in them that measures g-force. If you apply a certain amount of g/acceleration in a certain direction for a certain amount of time, you must be then be travelling at a certain speed. Once you have speed and time, you can measure distance (to calculate 400m times). Simple, but it works quite well.

good for street tuning but not accurate for comparison to a timeslip from a drag strip. just an accelerometer but with acceleration and time you can calc time to speed and distance from that.

which was giving you the faster time track or gtech?

track when done seperate.. gtech when i tried it at the strip.. maybe the wheelspin etc on the street but at the track time where anywhere from .5-2sec diffrent

I took my G Tech to the track.. I wish the track times were the same
It was usually 2-3 10ths generous but about 9 mph generous. It would be much like a dyno though, good for testing differences but thats about it.... although I believe the new ones are better.
