The missus looked over my shoulder while i was drooling and said quote PHWOAAARRRRR now that is a car i could see us in. I just LOOOOVE that

I saw the cover and immediatley bought the mag, excellent pics and a really positive article too. If only ford marketing could take these sort of pics.

Here we go. They seem to have the E2 HSV too.

I had to double take when I saw it in the servo, couldn't believe a falcon made it to the cover of a mag as opposed to 50 billion different HSV's that twats like wheels, motor and other bogan fodder magazines seem to ooze once a month.

The big selling point is that it's 12k cheaper than a GT with the same motor detuned to 302 but torque is the same. Supposed to sit between XR8 and GT in the lineup.

I think as of next year there will be no XR8 in the ford lineup. FPV will do all fords V8's ( the GS is XR8's replacement )

Not really..

The problem with the GS is its a limited edition, therefore there will be no bonus money / discounts.. On the road without brembos or leather they retail for about $61,000 dealers are selling 5th aniversary special editions for $66,000 thats only $5000 for a real gt, with 6 pot brembos, leather, parking sensors and all the extra GT stuff...

It was a positive article, journo loved the car. TGA mag doesn't appear to have the holden bias that wheels etc does.

Wish they would come up with some different colour pics than just the green ..... or are they already all taken and no need to show a few different ones??

if the gs is a replacement for the xr8 then i will never be able to afford a brand new v8 falcon, $60,000 thats well out of my price range. Guess i'll keep doing up the ute.

That is not a valid reason...

If the decision to kill the XR8 is simply because it would share the same hardware down to the supercharger to that of the new FPV range, then that doesn't sit well with me. Is it a cost issue for XR8? Is it the perception that there wouldn't be enough differentiation between XR and FPV? could it be the easy mod to XR8 to get it upto FPV spec engine power?? Well they just done all that with the GS, doesn't seem to bother them now.

At the moment we have an XR8 than shares essentially the same principles and fundamentals in engine design with FPV 8's, so why would supercharging suddenly change the equation for XR8?

Considering Ford do ALL the work to get the new 8's into the cars, and this is happening right now, why would they then happily do all that yet hand it to FPV for the benefit of their own brand only? We have to remember that Ford are in Business with FPV/Prodrive, you would expect that they would want some form of return on their investment. If they let XR8 go and the branding changes, how does this help Ford?

We have to remember that if it wasn't for a Ford inspired/branded V8 model, then there wouldn't be FPV versions of it. How can any aspiring FPV owner get a taste of that experience when they will be potentially priced out of the opportunity?

There remains to be lots of speculation about this... I'm still not convinced and from the info I have, it's still not a done deal. They are in a position to be able to make this decision very late in the piece as all the work is done, so it may be quite a while before confirmation.

One thing, if the XR8 name is killed off, will the XR6, XR5 and XR4 names die off too?

Nope.

I would like XR6 to become either ST or S, but other than that, XR6T can remain in its own right, XR5 has a cult following, but don't expect another Fiesta XR4.

It would also alienate people that will not be able to afford the FPV V8....which would just send them over to buy an SS.

I really don't see the problem in having an XR8 and a G8E...unless the whole green image reason that was rumoured on here.

I think the Current GS is priced at a point that is compromise between the XR8's price and the GT price.

If FPV were to make the GS a permanent model (and replace the XR8) then I would assume it would be competitively priced with an SS-V.

I don't think the V8's going to FPV will hurt that much.
