Default FPV rumour: Fact of Fiction?

Hey Guys

Just had someone posting an interesting rumour on our website. Don't know if it's true or not but I thought I'd share it with you guys anyway.

Can anybody confirm/deny?

A little too optimistic I would have thought - you'd be talking about a degree of engineering that BMW puts in to the M engines, this car wouldn't be able to sell for less than $90k.

Plus the weight of the awd system would most likely push the car over the 2tonne mark, and then there would probably be exhaust issues in designing it around the drivetrain. Remember Mitsubishi and the coupe 4 have both been limited in kw produced from the exhaust design around the AWD drivetrains.

Who knows.. they might release a 400kW car.. with an engine, chassis and drivetrain made entirely of lead to increase kerb weight to 2650kg.. ensuring they are slower and handle worse then the competition... :

(before anyone gets all defensive, joke! lol)

well i can't confirm the actual power numbers, but one of my good mates (engineer) has seen the next gen config and power targets, all he could tell me was that his jaw hit the floor.

And the new Hemi engines don't have anything new or exciting with the fuel injection on them.

The only 'different' thing is the electronically controlled soleniod activated hydraulic lifters, that deactivate the 2 inner cylinders on each bank to conserve fuel.

A 254kW 5.7L engine is hadrly a huge advance over the boss motor. And the R/T's get more power by increasing displacement to 6.2L.

Sound like CR@P to me...

There's a point of deminishing returns where KW per Litre of capacity is reached in an engine that a) has to pass strict emission regs, b) has to be user firendly and have good manners, c) has to be fuel efficient and d) can cope with vastly changing climatic conditions without compromising a) b) and c).
Effectively this is controlled heavily by the optimum air to fuel ratio being reached and quantity of fuel charge that enters the cylinder on each cycle.
For the N/A motors: Boss 5.4 is at 53.7 kw/l, LS2 is at 49.5 kw/l,
Forced: F6 is at 67.5 kw/l. XR6T is at 60 kw/l.
The air to fuel ratio won't significantly change from N/A to Forced however the voulmetric efficiency does hence the extra kw/l.
To put it simply it would be extremely difficult to get 60-70 kw/l form a N/A motor in a street car, 50-55kw/l seems to be about the limit with current tech.

As far as i know there are no new large displacement V8 engine developments from ford, the most recent being the 'hurricane' prooject, which has been canned.

The next engine lineup for Orion will be in production right now, the 5.4L all alloy s/c V8. There may be some configuration changes, but i believe this is the only engine Ford will have to choose from, makes sense from a cost and packaging point of view.

Seeing the E46 M3 has 78kw/L from an N/A I6.... New M5 has 75kw/L from 5L V10 and New (Yet unrealeased) M3 has 76kw/L from a 4L V8... Then there is Toyota Corolla Sportivo 78.3kw/L and Various Hondas, Ferraris etc etc etc as well. Also there is the 5.0L Cammer V8 from Ford... Emissions Legal and 68kw/L

Isn't there a BMW model with over 100kw/L?

At 6000rpm the E46 M3 has about 230kw still... about 72 kw/L
