Default Most talented drivers

well this thread should be interesting...

As a disclaimer I must say that for any driver to get to a professional level is a huge achievement.

Who do you think are the most talented drivers in mainstream motorsport? (bikes, boats and other forms are not included, just cars!)

My vote goes to WRC drivers, mainly because of the vastly different surfaces they race on every round and he crazy speeds they do sideways around 99.9% of the turns.

A close second would be V8 Supercars, they are very old school compared to others, you really have to nurse them at times; not to mention the very close racing we have.

So, let the bickering begin! ing_sm

EDIT: Mods can you please fix up the spelling in the title..I let that one slip

rally drivers are skilled as, going sideways and all on cliff and taking risks. i'd say f1 requires alot of skill as reaction time for these drivers are more quicker and crucial than other types of races. In the end they al require decent skill even drag racing. would shuey beat victor bray in doorslammers? no he wouldnt as he is not as skilled in that area.

I've got a video of someone coming up Pikes Peak in the late 80's in a Pegeot. Anyone who's seen it will know he's either stupid or a bloody good driver.

WRC always leaves me shaking my head when you watch some of the stages they compete on. They are always inches from a huge shunt.

F1 is all about reacting quickly and being consistant. The days of the dangerous high speed tracks with no run off such as the old 'Ring and Imola pre chicanes are gone so there is much more room for errors, and maybe the driving skill is not as high as it used to be because of the driver aids.

Watching some IRL videos had me thinking they are highly skilled running so close to each other on the superspeed ways at 220MPH. Some of the moves they pull are crazy. (3 wide into corners inches apart.)

My vote goes to WRC.

The truck driver nicknamed 'stink' that came to my house the other day.. bloody good at reversing down a ****y little side street, without hitting my gate posts, had about 2 inches to spare on each side.. LEGEND

The thing I can't get over is when he takes his hand off the wheel to block the sun out.

I would have to agree with WRC. F1 drivers are very fit and skilled also, but i think that punting a vehicle through the forrest at warp speed without making any mistakes would be far more challenging than going round a track.

But the most "balls" award would have to goto the MOTOGP riders.

The driver in question was Ari Vartinen, in a Peugeot 205 specifically developed for the Pikes Peak hill climb(& other hill climbs like it)
The name of the clip you are referring to would be 'Climb Dance' & was distributed by Peugeot at the time as a bit of advertising for them.
Tis an exceptional piece of videotography of some absolutely amazing driving. From running at such high speeds to letting the tail end hang off in free space above 1000's of feet drop.
Tis even more suprising to note that Kiwi Rod Millen who holds the record for the Pikes Peak climb is 30 odd seconds quicker then the run in that video.

Ari Vatanen, pikes peak Peugeot 405 turbo.... the greatest rally video ever shot, shows the true skill required to be a professional, he drives one handed to block the sun, he slides the car within inches of sure death, one of the cameras gets taken out by a rock and all you can hear is the scream of the turbo and the gravel being thrown about... i taped it on channel 9's sportsworld back in the day with Alan Jones.... And all with no commentary!

Have you guys ever watch the "All Star" driving challenge, I've seen it a few times on ESPN but can't seem to google anything

They pit, F1, Nascar, Rally, and o few other classes of motorsport drivers in a set format in different cars in a Stadium format.. Great to watch..
