Excellent News. Justice can be served every so often. When you sort out the new car security system I will buy one.

I'm quite interested too, is it just a webcam hooked up to a laptop or something similar, mini-ITX setup?

Same thing happened to me. In a school, in a staff carpark but in the front RHS of my ute. They got confronted & paid up. Her excuse was she's on stress leave/didn't look out the back window when reversing.

Thing is, I only followed it up because other admin staff weren't too crash hot on her. My ute was already damaged but she made it worse without realising it.

Pearly, please keep us updated, I'm sure that everyone that has posted, & read this thread (even the owner if he is a closeted AFF member) would love to hear about the steps & results of this incident. Maybe handy to know for ourselves at some point. I for one would love to hear how this pans out. I've always believed if you do something wrong, you should be punished. So I hope you get a good result out of it.

Your XR8 is worth a whole lot more, sentimentally, in status, & moneytary value than that uncared for Triton POS. It doesnt even look like the owner takes care of it. Terrible Colour too....

Thanks guys for all the support and help with identifying the car.

Those that want to know a little bit about the carputer, it consists of a laptop that lives under the drivers seat. Everything hooks up to that, then it's controlled via a flip out touchscreen on the dash. There is a web camera that I'm wiring up at the moment as a reverse camera, but the camera I used for this was just a little Mini DV MD80. It's about the size of a USB drive. It runs off an internal battery and stores video on a micro SD card. I've been using it recently to try different locations for different camera mounting points as a bit of a security system. Yesterday when I parked there I left it sitting in front of my cluster. There is no screen on it and virtually no lights either when it's running, so I thought it was off, or didn't have much longer to go before it powered off. Once the card fills up, it switches off. I was very pleasantly surprised when I got home and realised that not only had it kept recording, but for longer than usual! I will have to wire up a couple more permanent ones now I think and have them running full time when I'm not in the car. The laptop will run for about 3-4 hours on battery power alone, so should be sufficient to record just about anything when I leave it parked somewhere during the day. Assuming someone doesn't actually take off with the car!

Anyway, I went and reported the incident to the local police today. The officer was surprised I had it on video, from in car! He thinks I shouldn't have a problem. Will ring the insurance company tomorrow.

Glad you found the car again Pearly, Lets hope they own up when confronted with the evidence, I do take some offence from some of the its just a 4wd drive POS comments though, I have a 4wd and its covered in dents and scratches, doesn't mean I would just drive off if I reversed into another car, I use my 4wd for what its made for, a hard days work, but inside its clean tidy and well looked after, all I'm saying is don't judge a car just because its not kept show room condition, some vehicles work for there fuel lol!, Don't get me wrong though, the owner of that Triton must pay for what he/she has done

Your going about it the right way Pearly, report it and let your insurance do the work for you, that's why we pay premium's, he/she will think that they have got away with it at this stage but little do they know........

Great feel good story Pearly, I hope it all works out for you in the end. I would really love to see the look on the persons face when they see the footage, if they ever do.

An epic win!

Would have love to have seen his/her face when the pleecemun said that there was footage from inside the car.... A true Kodak, WTF moment!

Driver: "Huh? Officer, UM, did you say IN CAR footage?"

Pleecemun: "Yes that is correct"

Driver: "Oh @#&* IT!"

Now that driver is going to be scared $!&*less every time they reverse out thinking, "what if I'm being recorded? WHHHAAAAAAAHHHHH"

I guess that incar recorder just went from worth every cent, to priceless...

Damn that was quick, awesome result, props to the boys in blue. I would love to be a fly on the wall in his house tonight.

I see a future for this doohickey of yours. Thought about incorporating WiFi so it sends the data to your phone? Even if they stole it, you still get the evidence.

Don't know if the driver will get charged. I forgot to ask. Really happy with the officer that helped me out. He was young, came out to look at the car and take some photos and complimented me on the ute. He told me he would have the report written up by tonight.

I definitely would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when they got that call.

I do have wifi on the laptop, so might have to do a live feed to the web at some stage!

Magnificent result - Now that he has admitted guilt if you spot his truck again you should slip a piece of paper under his wiper with the youtube link to your video. It's only fair, don't you think that he get's the chance to see and read what people think of his low act.

That was so very lucky Pearly it was still recording ...
You had a second pair of eyes, when you didn't even know it, gotta luv that ;)
What a weapon to have left in your car ...

So glad you were on to it quick enough ...

It's the worse thing with having a lovely car & having to find a place to park it :|
They just don't care & have NO honesty at all :|

I can't belive how easy you said it would have been to reversed out,
but yet it took 3 times ?!?!?
It is very clear, this car has to be un-roadworthy also ?

You have gone about it the right way & may justice be done at the end of the day

well my brothers EB got damaged from the across the road neighbours she owned up to it , she is going to pay for the damage which is nice and then yesterday same neighbour left the territory unattened ( i think that is how you spell it ) any way she had the car out in drive no hand break on and the territory rolled back over the road and over the gutter and into the front fence which is just great !
