I had to go to court to get my P licence back. From that i learnt first hand by watching the guys who didn't have a lawyer and the guys like my self that did have a lawyer what a difference a lawyer makes. They are pro's at this so use one! They will go over what you have told us and fine tune it to say all that it needs to say to win your case plus they'll make you get character references etc... all these will save your . I spent $1100 on my lawyer and He paid for himself during the 10 min hearing. Also i have a few mates that are coppers ... 3 being trafic cops (and they are decent guys, suprise suprise) but the Judge will always side with the boys in blue. Oh n a lawyer will tell you straight away wheter or not you are wasting your time

Is that still a one month licence suspension? I lost mine for a month about four years ago in Victoria for 20kph over. The least you might get is a reduction as it doesn't sound like he could clock you accurately.

There have been a few threads floating around recently about coppers with attitude. I can imagine with all the bad press with young idiots killing themselves recently that the ministers have jumped on the C and the word has filtered through to crack down...

Firstly, go and find a solicitor who specialises in these things and get proper legal advice, not advice from people on the internet.
Having said that ......Forget the safety vest thing, it is irrellevant and immaterial. You really need an 'I said - He said' type statement and take out all opinions and irrelevant stuff like membership of clubs etc. They have nothign to do with the matter at hand.
If you have the ticket, follow whatever the instructions are to contest it. Once you recieve the summons you get your solicitor to request the brief of evidence and see what they have ... that's when the serious part starts and your defence gets planned.

take it from someone who has not been in a lot of trouble or booked much . everytime i got booked i was doing the wrong thing. and when i wasn't i copped it anyway, unable to prove my innocence . so good luck . hope it goes well. do you have witnesses . ? most of the time people dont , and that is the loophole . it becomes law against civilian. but i have heard of some people winning , and you have a right to contest . he doesnt sound like he has proof. so there might be a good chance he has no evidence.

Although its a bugger mate, and we all know you probably weren't speeding, you have to take into consideration what the above two have said.

Try to channel your anger away from the police involved (going on about lack of vests seems to be an irrelevant attack at the police involved, and bears no relevance on the actual incident). These coppers must dread every long weekend, because it means there is a good chance of them having to pull out a mutilated motorist out of a crashed car. In their eyes they probably prevented any chance of this happening to/because of you.

Good luck to you any way mate, and if you are serious about fighting this (maybe in a few days you'll calm down and just let it slide), maybe contact the RAA legal team. Also, it may be a good idea to take XA-Coupe's advice, and even request the thread be removed after you've had some advice. If I were in the police traffic division, and serious about clamping down on hoon driving, I would be spending a lot of time on these car forums................

^^ I think this is the hot tip for you. Definitely drop the bit about the vest, drop the bit about previous dealings with police - these read quite sarcasticaly. I'm for the bit about your involvement in club's - probably with a bias to "Classic" Car Clubs, I thought it generated a feeling of maturity when I read it.

I thaught Adelaide cops were pretty cool after this morning. I got let off with DUI this morning even though i hadn't had a drink in 12 hours I still registered over .03 I was bretholised 3 times at a big RBT station and because it kept dropping heaps he let me go and said not to drive for a couple of hours.
