I wasnt saying it hasnt been serviced every year or when due, i mean say an average of 500 per service vs say 200 for a mazda has to be considered in the equation, then the cost of insurance as well.

It would be nice to be given a ferrari, but the ongoing costs would make it not feasable.

Keep the Beamer. If you're quick, ring the Mazda dealer and get the order cancelled ASAP. Then enjoy.

look Andrew Its a great car and if you want to keep it then keep it ,

And yes you are right a bmw is by far a better all round car than a falcon by a mile .

I would only own a BMW if i could afford to replace it with a new one every 2-3 years .
But like I said its a great car especially for nothing and enjoy driving it!

whats the specs on the motor on these 530i's??? are they a 3.0l 6? cmon steffo... thought u woulda quoted some numbers from your bibles by now...

They are a 3.0, Injected Straight 6, with about 170 KW, and 300 NM, connected to a 5 Speed Auto Gearbox. Should tow the boat allright, although it needs to be run in first.

Normally, the first number is the series, the last 2 numbers are the engine in it. So a 318i is in the "3 series" of beemas, with the 1.8 litre engine.

But this is not always the case, for example the 540 came with a 4.4 litre engine

Damn it doesn't need the cobwebs blown out, it still has to be run in!!! What a dilemma!!! I'd definitely keep it and even try and keep the k's low by making it a weekend car, that way in 2 years time it will still only have like 20,000km on it and be a mint condition 8 year old car still worth something obscene!!! Just remember that servicing might set you back although it's out of warranty so there maybe isn't a need to take it to BMW anymore...

The 318i has a 2.0 litre engine. They changed it a few years back.

i dont know your financial status but if it was me i'd sell the BMW pay off my mortgage or put the money into an investment and keep driving what your driving. Set for life.

Really interested to hear what your Mrs says though – Why haven’t you told her yet? Was the Mazda her dream car or did she just want a new car full stop? If she wasn’t emotionally entangled with the Mazda I reckon she’d be stoked with a Beamer! Talk to her before you cancel the Mazda though otherwise you could be in some serious trouble...

Its free so, why not? and with the money you saved on not buying the '6' you can cover a lot of the running cost for a good while and cover a good deal of depreciation. So its all good.

The Mazda wasn't her dream car, by far. It was a car that suited out needs, and one that I could take on occasion, and that she could easily manage as a car. When I first started my current Job, I had a Nissan Patrol. My Work gave me a Holden Calais to drive for 6 weeks before my XR6 was ready, so my Wife was forced to drive the Patrol, which, when you have moved up from a Toyota Corolla is a large change in driving dynamics. The Patrol was manual, Diesel, Rear Wheel Drive and heavy, none of which the Mazda or the BMW is.

I haven't told her, because I haven't been able to. She will be home from the CBD in about 25 mins, and I will tell her I have a surprise for her, and it is arriving tomorrow morning. I will let her decide what we are going to do, once she is settled with the BMW, we will decide what to do with the cars. It is not a bad changeover price from the Lexus to the Mazda, and if I do what I would like to, and keep the BMW for a weekend car. That would keep both parties happy. Only if we didn't come to any form of agreement.

Sounds like an opportunity too good to pass up, I'd definitely cancel the Mazda while you still can in the cooling-off period, and keep the Beemer. The 530i is a great car, the I6 is a magnificent thing. With such low km on it, it's basically brand new as well which makes it even more appealing. Go for it mate, don't look back!

I spilled the beans to the Wife. Her reaction is not what I expected at all. She looked livid, not at me, but at my Great Aunt for deciding NOW, not two weeks ago that she was going to give up the license. If we were told two weeks ago, we may have saved $25,000 from the sale of the Lexus. Such is life I guess. I told her to sleep on it, and tell me in the morning what she wants to do. It looks like we will have to keep three cars. The Mazda will be her daily driver, the Territory as mine, and the BMW as the weekend car. I will report back tomorrow with the results (sounds like a game).

Sell the beamer, cancel the mazda and buy a gtp. Ok in all honesty keep the bmw and cancel the Mazda and good on you for being adult about the fight in the 90s, make sure you pay your other relatives a nice trip in the new toy.

Keep the beamer its a good car for nothing. Then talk to the missus about the other 2 which one do you really need thats what i would do of course make sure you can afford to service the beemer cause it aint cheap. But i would keep it no matter what

Nothing worse on the road than an old BMW, they are completely without class.

BMWs rarely change shape, a 1999 model is only the last shape before the current, so it looks just like a 2004 model.

My Dilemma is this: I have a 2000 Kg Boat, which I need a large car to tow. The Territory is my tow vehicle, like the XR6 before it. I believe that, first I will have to run the BMW in, and then secondly, I will have to see how the car will tow the boat. I will have to hang onto the Territory until I get a chance to put a towbar on the BMW, which won't be for a while yet.

It still looks like I will be keeping three cars, one as a daily driver for me, one for the wife, and one for the weekends.

Wow, how lucky! One of the nicest BMWs to date. If only it was an M5 in black heh.

You can see how everything goes for a couple of months or a year, and then decide what the best option is.

I'd be interested seeing some pics, even though I am well aware of what they look like. They are just so sleek and classy.
