Figures, although great for a 2L, seem only adequate for the performance truck it is trying to be. Wouldn't expect it to have great engine longevity either. For this reason alone I am strongly of the opinion they have put the wrong engine in there. In a lower state of tune it may last for a while, but not when wringing that much power out of such small capacity. Aftermarket tuning would probably also send it into meltdown. Disappointed that Ford went down this path.

Not hard. 3.2 is old and never was anything special.

Another US article
https://www.motorauthority.com/news/...diesel#image=5 Power and torque is a lot less than I was expecting. As I thought it would be a tuned version of the 2.0 that XLT and Wildtrak will eventually get. Maybe the power and torque will be the same across the range including Raptor?? Cool to see paddle shift with the auto Last edited by Brazen; 07-02-2018 at 10:27 PM. |

Looks amazing from the front and side. Back end looks a little plain though. But an extra 10kws and 30nm? Hold on to your hats! Wonder if it will be able to do 0-100kmh in under the 10 second mark yet.
Wonder what long term reliability will be like squeezing lots of power from a small engine. We welcome the Ranger Peacock to the Ford family. |

Reminds me of the days when they dropped the v8 engine and said that everybody will love the efi 4.1 six pack. Wrong. I’m sure the 2,0 litre is a good engine buts it’s already beaten by the amarock that will be a lot cheaper than the raptor. Ford have the v6 diesel. That should be the top of the range engine. Full stop

Not sure if we have the full story yet, as embargo lifts in 20mins. There may be two states of tune of the 2.0 and perhaps the Thai release is describing the lower one.

80k for a 2L Ranger, seems funny the most expensive model has the smallest engine
Wonder what the long term engine durability will be like |

I didn't see anything about the lights. Since it's 2018 I expect LEDs everywhere except maybe just some Bi-Xenons for the front at the worst. Or have Ford thought that the same lights that came in cars 100 years ago is good enough? |

You can do trackless crossings of the Simpson Desert but thats more a slow lug at 10kph than at speed. Some good beach dunes etc where it would be great fun though.

Cosmetically it’s a winner, looks tough and the interior looks like a special place to be in.
The engine for me, on paper at least, is a let down. The F150 gets its own engine which is more powerful than the V8 it replaced, why doesn’t Ranger get its very own? I don’t know how I’d feel about throwing around 80grand on one of these. I’m sure there’s plenty that will, but for me, I’m not yet convinced. |

Looking at the stats this morning I think it will be a dud here. The towing capacity is 2500kg.
I’m guessing because of the rear suspension set up??? It’s longer, wider and more powerful than the ranger but tows 1000kg less. If it’s 80+ forget it. I think it will be an awesome truck but really, 2500kg?? Spending that amount of money and limiting yourself to 2.5 tonnes is a negative in my book. The 2500kg may be less depending on the GCM - load the ute up and the 2500kg rating will come down. Wonder what the ball load will be - one would think 250kg but will have to wait and see. The 2 litre doesn’t worry me, the limiting factor of not being able to hook up a full size caravan though does. I’m excited about the truck and disappointed at the same time. I was looking at a new vehicle in May but this is now off my list. See what GM bring out in the not too distant future. |

I predicted this months ago but the reality is that Ford has a huge job ahead of it.
The issue goes to what made Ranger a sales success and that's all thanks to the 3.2 I-5 diesel being 85% of sales. Obviously, those buyers wanted two things, more performance than the base I-4 diesel and an engine with more basic capacity that sounds different to an I-4. Ford did such a great job of up-selling Ranger with the 3.2 I-5 that it now acts against them, how can Ford now convince those buyers than a 2.0 I-4 diesel is more than adequate? ....and that's before we even discuss the expected $80K price.. They have simply undersized the engine with the Raptor. It will still be fantastic and a big seller. |

RRP on a 4x4 Wildtrak 3.2 Auto is $67,000, I expect Raptor will be well North of $70,000 maybe $80,000. In that instance it's hard to see it being a big seller but mind you, 2,000 sales a year would be good fishing IMO. Personally, I like this brave bold initiative by Ford, but I'm not the one Ford has to convince, it's all those people with 80 grand to spend on a truck.... The original Raptor had been created by SVT for a special purpose, this does not compare and defeats the original ideas of SVT Raptor creation. Yes I am biased.

It was a huge success, and with the recently updated F-150 Raptor (released last year) they have created a unique power plant for it.

This would be akin to offering F150 Raptor with only a 3.0 V6 diesel, nice truck but hardly what people expect...
Mind you, armchair experts are often wrong about lots of things, so I hope Ford sells a bunch of them. |

It is up against V8 Landcruiser and Patrol V6 Jeep and LandRover. Will be a hard sell.
