Default Legalities: dumping exhaust after diff

I'm not sure about others, but personally I like the clean look of the rear of BA XTs, late Mitsu Magnas etc where the exhaust dumps just before the bumper - so there is no need for a tip or a hole in the bumper. Is it legal just to have the exhaust to finish just after the diff or even further back in an older (1990-2000 for example) Falcon?

What I see as possible problems: carbon monoxide seeping up through the boot and into the cabin, and also that it wasn't like this from factory. I know someone on the forums has done this to their XR, just wondering if it's all legal and safe etc.

Thanks

The pipe has to ru to the end of the body. It has to be pointing reward and can't exit near a openable window.

In a rearward direction, the Magna and BA exausts point downwards and back.
I know of someone with his pipe dumped before the diff in an ED XR.

It doesnt let a great deal of fumes in the car, and its not as loud as you would think.

LOL I think we are referring to the same guy ;)

I am thinking about getting something like the BA's, how it sorta tips at the rear. You can still see it a bit though.

the problem with the exhaust dumping downwards is it contaminates any surface water by pushing hot exhaust gasses onto it.

The law regarding the rear most part of the body is to stop exhaust fumes being sucked into the caben.
